January's Book of the Month

Our January Book of the Month is called "You Forgot Your Skirt, Amelia Bloomer!".  This is a wonderful, brightly illustrated book with an awesome message!  In this true story, we meet Amelia Bloomer, a young, exciting woman who wants to change the way the women of her time dress.  She is tired of wearing the heavy, puffy dresses of her time.  Amelia's courage and determination lead her to introduce a new style for her day - the very appropriately named, "bloomers".   While this story is a lot of fun to read, it also introduces some juicy vocabulary and author's craft.  We also learn how courage and determination can make important changes in the face of adversity!  Click on the link to the right to read a review and see a small extension activity you can do at home!
