This week, Room 5 read Maurice Sendak's wonderful story , Where the Wild Things Are. After revisiting and discussing the story a few times, the students had the opportunity to illustrate their favorite part. Then, as a class, we posted our illustrations in the correct sequence as a way to retell the story. The students then had to write a retelling to go along with the part they illustrated.
As writers, it is important for us to focus on a topic and provide events that support the main idea. Exploring and retelling the adventures of Max, the students were able to observe the importance of story structure. As young writers, it is so important for them to be exposed to a variety of different stories and ideas. Encourage your child to express their ideas in writing!!
Take a look at our retelling mural below!
